This story is an instant classic to be shared between mothers and babies growing up in Hawaiʻi. The playful lullaby reminds us of the ever present sweet, gentle, and soothing naturescapes from around the islands. Watch mynah birds fly against the setting sun, humpbacks dance across the ocean stage, and evening rains reveal the starry night. Our local culture emphasizes the importance of being in harmony with our natural world. “Hush Little Keiki” delivers this eco- friendly message by expanding on the outdated children’s lullaby “Hush Little Baby.”
Kim Vukovich spent much of her childhood outdoors, playing everywhere from the mountains to the sea on the island of Maui. With the birth of her daughters came the realization of the importance of teaching our keiki to care for the land. Kim believes the first step is for keiki to enjoy the natural world and wrote this lullaby in the hopes of inspiring parents to take their children outside.
