We’re proud to introduce the ten incredible companies joining Cohort 10 of Mana Up, a Hawai‘i-based accelerator and economic development initiative that helps local product companies scale globally—while creating jobs, opportunities, and strengthening community across the islands.
What began as a stay-at-home mom’s nighttime creative outlet has blossomed into one of Maui’s most beloved lifestyle brands. Keani Hawai‘i, founded by designer and entrepreneur Keani Leʻa Barnes, blends the effortless beauty of island living with a refined, feminine aesthetic—through handcrafted jewelry, apparel, and thoughtfully curated boutique experiences.
“I’ve always loved statement pieces and the feeling of getting dressed with intention,” says Keani. “In the early days, I’d be up late making jewelry after putting the kids to bed—just creating for the joy of it. I never imagined it would grow into this.”
Today, Keani Hawai‘i is known for its nature-inspired collections, welcoming customer experience, and a mission rooted in empowering women through style and self-expression.
From Mama-Made to Maui Mainstay
Raised in Pukalani, Maui, Keani launched her brand in 2011 as a small online shop—then called Keani Jewelry—selling handcrafted earrings and necklaces inspired by the ocean, local flora, and her love of fashion. Each piece told a story, often infused with elements like Tahitian pearls, sea urchin textures, or Manta Ray silhouettes.
As her designs caught on, so did her reputation for blending authenticity with elegance. The success led to the opening of her first boutique, followed by two more—each one reflecting her distinct style and warm, aloha-filled approach to business.
“I wanted people to feel the difference when they walked in—like they were stepping into a space that celebrated them,” Keani says.
Leading with Aloha
Keani Hawai‘i is rooted in more than just design. It’s anchored in community, culture, and care. From her customer service philosophy to her design inspirations, Keani’s connection to Hawai‘i is evident in every detail.
“We lead with aloha,” she says. “That means being attentive, authentic, and making sure every person feels seen. That’s how we were raised here—and it’s how I want people to feel in our stores.”
Whether it’s the bold curves of her Enchanted Linking Hoops, the organic forms in her He‘e (Octopus) pieces, or the newly launched prints in her apparel line inspired by kalo, heliconia, and hibiscus, Keani’s work is always a love letter to Hawai‘i’s natural beauty.
“We lead with aloha. That means being attentive, authentic, and making sure every person feels seen. That’s how we were raised here—and it’s how I want people to feel in our stores.”

A Modern Island Aesthetic
Keani often describes her brand as “Maui meets Malibu”—a mix of laid-back island living with elevated, modern design. It’s a balance that resonates with both kama‘āina and visitors alike.
“Our pieces are relaxed and wearable, but still feel refined,” she says. “They’re designed for everyday women who want to feel beautiful, grounded, and seen—whether they’re running errands, heading to brunch, or traveling abroad.”
Her signature layered necklaces, rotating earring collections, and upcoming Kaimana jumpsuit are all created with versatility in mind—giving women the tools to build a style that feels effortlessly their own.
Building with Intention
Like many entrepreneurs in Hawai‘i, Keani has faced the challenges of growing a business from the islands. From high rent and shipping costs to finding the right partners and talent, scaling hasn’t been easy. But staying rooted in purpose has helped guide her through every obstacle.
“One of my proudest moments was opening our third boutique,” she says. “It reminded me how far we’ve come—what started as a few handmade pieces has become something so much bigger. And when customers tell us that they feel beautiful or seen in our pieces—that’s what keeps me going.”
A Vision for Sustainable, Inspired Growth
Looking ahead, Keani is focused on growing sustainably and with heart. That means strengthening her online presence to reach more women beyond Hawai‘i, expanding to O‘ahu and other neighbor islands, and continuing to develop her signature apparel line—which she describes as wearable art rooted in place and story.
She’s also exploring new accessory categories, like handbags, and dreaming of ways to further support and mentor other women in business.
“Ultimately, I want Keani Hawai‘i to be a brand that reminds people of what’s possible—that you can build something beautiful and meaningful right here at home.”
Grounded by Ocean and Faith
For Keani, staying grounded comes from returning to the things that matter most: time with her husband and two daughters, surfing the waves of Maui, and leaning into her faith.
“The ocean is where I feel most alive. It’s where the noise quiets down,” she says. “And my faith in God—especially in the hard moments—reminds me that I don’t have to have it all figured out. I just have to keep showing up, stay creative, and trust the process.”
Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Her advice to anyone starting a business in Hawai‘i? “Let creativity and curiosity fuel you—but know that it’s a climb. There will be seasons of grind and seasons of grace. You have to cheer for yourself, keep growing, and stay aligned with what matters most.”
