Inspired by the nostalgia of being raised in the islands, Coco Moon has grown into a collection of everyday keiki essentials that add a touch of aloha to every step of your ‘ohana’s routine. Growing up the daughter of a Maui waterman, owner Amber Thibaut has been connected to the island culture in a way she’ll always cherish. Her fondest memories are of long days in the ocean–diving, surfing and fishing until the setting sun painted the sky. She came to appreciate that connection even more after moving to the mainland for college, and it grew even stronger when she returned home to start her family.
Late one night while nursing her son, Amber’s mind began to wander as she once again reached for the pareo she often used as a baby blanket. Though it functioned well enough, it had no lasting meaning, and was far from a cherished baby keepsake. She longed for something that connected to the Hawaii she loves, where a deep sense of community, beautiful arts and traditions, and devotion to ‘ohana are woven into all we do.
In essence, Coco Moon was born that night. And today, the keiki-centric brand designs buttery-soft baby essentials inspired by memories of a Hawai‘i childhood–uniquely modern with island soul.
How they give back:
Coco Moon began with the simple idea for a Hawaii-inspired baby blanket that everyone in our family would love and connect with. Since then, it’s evolved into so much more, becoming a vehicle through which they can connect with and support families in the local community.
The company has always wanted to weave a giving-back program into the fabric of its brand. In 2017, it was able to bring this desire to life by officially launching its giving program, which donates 1% of its sales each month to local organizations doing powerful work in our communities. Since then, they’ve grown the program to not only include cash donations made from a portion of sales, but also in-kind product donations.
As of early 2020, the Coco Moon team has donated to over 30 local organizations doing impactful work for our environment, our children, and the overall health of our communities–they are dedicated to Hawai‘i’s most vulnerable babies through supporting Kapiolani Medical Center's NICU. In May 2020, they donated to the Bail Project in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The brand has also honored frontline mamas through a Mother's Day giveaway, whereby moms were nominated and then awarded a luxuriously soft Mama Robe and Coco Moon gift card.
