Hawaiʻi ʻUlu Cooperative
Founded in 2016 by nine small-scale farmers on Hawaiʻi Island, the Hawaiʻi ʻUlu Co-op (HUC) is an agricultural producer cooperative dedicated to revitalizing ʻulu (breadfruit) as a thriving crop and staple in Hawaiʻi’s food system. Rooted in a shared mission, the co-op empowers farmers as changemakers, strengthening local agriculture and community resilience.
Since its founding, HUC has grown into the leading breadfruit farmer organization in Hawaiʻi and the United States, representing more than 100 family farmers across Hawaiʻi Island, Kauaʻi, Maui, and Oʻahu. Through collaboration, its members produce consistent, high-quality products that are delicious, versatile, nutritious, and sustainably grown.
Guided by the value of mālama ʻāina—care for and stewardship of the land—the co-op prioritizes environmentally responsible practices that support long-term food security for Hawaiʻi. With a vision of a thriving cooperative that uplifts producers, consumers, and communities alike, Hawaiʻi ʻUlu Co-op stands proudly as farmer-owned and ʻāina-grown.
