Your Hawai'i Shopping Guide, By Island

Written by House of Mana Up

Looking for the best places to shop in Hawaii? Start with the people who make what you’ll bring home. 116 companies have participated in the Mana Up accelerator, creating everything from chocolate and chili oil to glass lei and home goods. This helpful shopping guide highlights 52 local brands across Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, Maui and Kauaʻi, along with shops, farms, cafés and tasting experiences you can visit during your trip.

O'ahu

Start with a taste. Mānoa Chocolate makes bean-to-bar chocolate in Kailua, where you can visit its factory and tasting room. Kō Hana Rum offers distillery tours and tastings in Kunia. You can also enjoy the two together at the House of Mana Up store in Royal Hawaiian Center, which hosts a rum-and-chocolate pairing experience in the heart of Waikīkī. It’s an easy first stop for visitors: taste two Oʻahu brands, then browse products from makers across the islands. Book your tasting today!

Heading toward the North Shore? Stop at Kahuku Farms for its farm café and, if you have more time, a farm tour. In Wahiawā, Bizia Surf & Coffee Bar combines a café and surfboard showroom; its boards are crafted from invasive albizia wood at a workshop across the street. These are places to see a Hawaiʻi business at work, not just pick up its products.

Keep filling the bag. Look for real-fruit fizz from Hawaiian Soda Co., breadfruit snacks from ʻUlu Mana, seaweed snacks and seasonings from Okonokai, ube desserts from UBAE, and a pie from Hawaiian Pie Company to share before you leave. A variety of teas from Tea Chest Hawaiʻi makes for an easier-to-pack healthy gift.

For something that lasts longer, NOHO Home has its own store at Ala Moana Center. Arlie Glass turns flowers into beautiful glass lei; Aloha de Mele and Nick Kuchar Art & Design Co. put island artwork on prints and gifts.

Paper lovers can explore Bradley & Lily and Bujo Bae, while Keiki Kaukau makes Hawaiʻi-inspired toys and games. Add candles from Jules + Gem Hawaiʻi, clothing from YIREH, or a handbag from Oceans End. You can browse a mix of alumni brands in person at House of Mana Up’s Royal Hawaiian Center and South Shore Market stores. manauphawaii.com

Hawaiʻi Island (Big Island)

Follow your appetite to Hilo and beyond. Stop at Big Island Coffee Roasters’ Hilo café and roastery for a cup before choosing beans or Espresso Bites to bring home. Liko Lehua makes fruit butters in Hilo, Wai Meli jars honey that reflects the season’s blossoms, and Kaimana Jerky makes tuna and salmon jerky in Kailua-Kona. There are macadamias from Island Harvest and Ahualoa Family Farms, snacks from Maebo Noodle Factory, and breadfruit products from Hawaiʻi ʻUlu Co-op.

Visit the source. Sea Salts of Hawaiʻi makes culinary salts, mineral baths, and magnesium products at its unique 7-acre salt farm setting on Keahole Point. A guided visit to the working oceanfront farm lets you learn how deep ocean water becomes salt; there’s also a farm store. On the Hāmākua Coast, Hawaiian Vanilla Co. offers a culinary tasting and farm tour for anyone curious about how vanilla grows.

Beyond food, look for botanical body care from Hawaiian Rainforest Naturals and Ua Hawaiʻi, jewelry from Keani Hawaiʻi, paniolo-inspired clothing from Western Aloha, and juices and wellness products from Hā Tonics.

Mana Up Markets at the Westin Hāpuna Beach Resort, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and Mauna Loa Visitor Center offer additional places to browse island-made goods in person. Stock varies by location.

Maui

Pack something with heat. Maui Chili Chili Oil makes a condiment you may start putting on everything before the trip is over. HI Spice bottles hot sauces featuring island fruit and peppers. Maui Nui Venison makes jerky from wild-harvested axis deer, Maui Crisps offers a crunchy savory snack, and Farm to Fudge Maui makes small-batch dark chocolate coconut fudge.

For gifts beyond the pantry, explore bath and body botanicals from Island Essence, home and body goods from To Be Hawaiʻi, recyclable gift wrap from Wrappily, and fermented foods from Nāpili FLO Farm. If you’re staying in West Maui, the Mana Up Market at Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows is a convenient place to shop a selection of Maui makers alongside other Hawaiʻi brands. There’s also a Mana Up retail location at Kahului Airport for a final look before your flight.

Kauaʻi

Make a stop in Hanapēpē. Aloha Spice Company has a physical shop where you can browse its blends and rubs in person. Elsewhere on the island, Kauai Sweet Shoppe makes caramels and chocolates at its shop and commercial kitchen at Kilohana Plantation. Kauai Gourmet Nuts roasts macadamias in small batches, and Wailua Granola Company offers a breakfast souvenir that probably won’t make it all the way home.

Kauaʻi gifts extend beyond the pantry. Meli Wraps makes reusable beeswax food wraps, Brianne & Co. crafts jewelry incorporating materials such as sea glass and shells, and Hobbs Tea offers Hawaiʻi-grown tea in plant-based packaging.

Make a Day of It

A tasting, farm visit, or stop at a maker’s shop gives you more than a souvenir: you get to see the place and meet the ideas behind it. Browse Mana Up’s alumni directory for more makers, or use House of Mana Up’s store guide to find a nearby retail location. Check individual businesses for current hours, tour bookings, and product availability before heading out.
